A discussion with The Mount’s 2017 Writers-in-Residence: Christene Barberich, Donna M. Lucey, and Vanessa Manko, and moderated by 2016 Writer-in-Residence and Mount Trustee, Claire McMillan

The 2017 Edith Wharton Writers-in-Residence – Christene Barberich, global editor in chief and co-founder of Refinery29, Donna M. Lucey author of Archie and Amelie: Love and Madness in the Gilded Age, and Vanessa Manko, author of The Invention of Exile – will discuss their past and forthcoming works, their careers, and their experiences writing in the house where Edith Wharton penned many of her most popular works. They will also touch on how Edith Wharton’s literary legacy has shaped and inspired their own works, and how she continues to influence female writers in the 21st century.

Claire McMillan‘s second novel, The Necklace, will be published July 1 by Simon and Schuster. Her first novel, Gilded Age, was a modern retelling of The House of Mirth set in contemporary Cleveland. She was a 2016 Edith Wharton Writer-in-Residence and now serves on The Mount’s board of trustees. She holds an MFA in creative writing from Bennington College and is currently a recovering attorney.

The Mount is a Massachusetts Cultural Council UP designated organization welcoming participants of all disabilities. Please contact Nicole Williams at 413-551-5100 or by email, nwilliams@edithwharton.org, to discuss accommodations needed to participate fully in this event.
